Privacy Policy

This policy applies to the How Did I Do That? app supplied by Stephen Kavazos trading as SKAV Digital, ABN 79 780 711 590.

It explains the app's handling of user-created guides, media, saved PDF manuals, search features, generated manual answers and drafts, backups and optional iCloud Sync. Information you separately send through the SKAV Digital support form or email is handled as a support communication, not as part of your app library.

The app stores user-created guides and their supporting information locally on the device.

Depending on what you choose to add, this can include:

• guide titles, categories, steps, notes, preparation details and success information
• photos, voice recordings and videos saved to a guide
• verification status, dates, last working versions and things that did not work
• Recently Deleted guides, storage information and iCloud Sync status

You can also import PDF manuals into a separate Manual Library. The app stores a private PDF copy, its title, optional manufacturer and model, dates and file metadata. It also creates searchable or indexed text locally, including text extracted from scanned pages where applicable. The original PDF stored independently in Files is not changed.

If you enable iCloud Sync, supported guide text and saved photos, voice recordings and videos can sync through the private iCloud account signed in on your devices.

• no separate SKAV account is required
• your guide library is not placed in a public or shared area
• no SKAV-hosted server receives your guide library

iCloud is an Apple service, and Apple's terms, account settings, service availability, security measures and privacy practices apply to data stored through iCloud. No electronic storage is completely secure.

Saved manuals and their local search information do not participate in the app's guide iCloud Sync.

Completed changes are saved on your device first and begin syncing while the app is open. The app also checks for changes when you open it or return to it.

The app does not provide continuous background syncing, instant updates or real-time collaborative editing. Disabling iCloud Sync leaves the complete library on the device; it does not automatically delete the private iCloud library.

The app can recognise visible text in saved photos and spoken words in saved voice recordings and videos to help you search your own library.

Photo and speech recognition happens on the device. Information created to support these searches stays on the device and is not added to your iCloud guide library. The original guide text and saved media can sync when iCloud Sync is enabled.

Manual search

Search Manual reads and indexes saved PDF content on your device, including text extracted from scanned pages where applicable. This search information stays local and can be rebuilt from the saved PDF. Searching a manual does not itself request a generated answer.

Ask This Manual and Enhanced Manual Answers

Ask This Manual generates suggested answers from relevant manual source material. Enhanced Manual Answers currently defaults to enabled and has its own control in Settings. This control is separate from guide iCloud Sync: disabling guide sync does not disable Enhanced Manual Answers.

When Enhanced Manual Answers is enabled and Apple's Private Cloud Compute model is available, the app may send Apple your manual question, selected relevant excerpts and rendered images of relevant manual pages when the available model supports image input. It selects source material for the question rather than attaching the complete manual PDF file or sending your complete guide or manual library. Apple processes this material to generate the suggested answer.

When Enhanced Manual Answers is disabled, the app selects its supported on-device Apple model. If Private Cloud Compute is unavailable, or certain connection or service failures occur, the app can use the on-device model when it is ready. Not every failure results in a fallback, and an answer may be unavailable if the required model or service is not available.

Create from Manual or PDF

This separate workflow uses an available on-device Apple model to analyse relevant extracted text and propose a draft guide for you to review. It does not use the Enhanced Manual Answers Private Cloud Compute route. The source PDF is used temporarily while you create the guide; it is not automatically added to your saved Manual Library. Text and full-page or cropped reference images you choose to keep can become part of the saved guide.

The app requests access only when needed for the feature you choose to use.

• Camera access is used to capture a photo or video for a guide.
• Photo-library access is used when you choose existing media.
• Microphone access is used to record voice or video audio.
• Photo and speech recognition is used to help search the media you saved.

You can manage app permissions in the device's system settings.

You choose when to create a complete backup and where to save it using the system Files interface. Complete backups can include saved guides and media, saved manual PDFs and their associated metadata.

A file provider you select, such as iCloud Drive or another provider, may upload and process the backup under its own terms. Backup files are controlled by you and are not password-encrypted by How Did I Do That?. Protect, verify and remove backup copies as appropriate.

The app does not require a separate SKAV account and does not include advertising or a third-party analytics service.

SKAV Digital does not sell the contents of your guide library. Apple may process platform and service information as part of operating your device, App Store account and iCloud under Apple's own policies.

Deleted guides normally move to Recently Deleted and remain recoverable for 30 days unless you remove them permanently sooner.

Removing app data from one place does not necessarily remove independent backups or copies held by a selected file provider. If iCloud Sync is enabled, deletion changes can sync to your private iCloud library and other synced devices.

Deleting a saved manual removes its record and private PDF copy from the app. The app also attempts to remove the manual's rebuildable local search information. Manuals are not placed in the guide-specific 30-day Recently Deleted workflow. Deleting a manual does not remove the original PDF stored independently in Files or copies in independent backups.

Reasonable care is taken in the app's design, but no device, file, sync or electronic storage system can be guaranteed completely secure or always available.

You are responsible for protecting your device, Apple account, device passcode, backups and any media or guide information you export or share.

How Did I Do That? is a general-purpose personal memory and record-keeping app and is not specifically directed at children.

This policy may be updated when the app, relevant services or privacy practices change. The updated policy will be published on this page with a revised last updated date.
